ARTINTHECITY IS AN UMBRELLA PROJECT THAT UNITES ARTS AND CULTURE IN THE UAE THROUGH A COMPREHENSIVE WEBSITE, A LISTINGS PUBLICATION AND THE ARTBUS ACTING AS A PLATFORM FOR THE UAE ARTS AND CULTURE SCENE TO A LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE.

ARTMAP

The tri-annual publication, ArtMap, is the guide to the UAE’s arts and culture scene, detailing a specified calendar of events and exhibitions. Featuring up to date maps of the UAE’s developing landscape, the ArtMap navigates its reader from galleries hidden in the historical houses alongside the Creek, to galleries and alternative venues within industrial warehouses of Al Quoz.

Each issue of the ArtMap also contains an editorial which focuses on important events in the arts calendar, giving you an in-depth look at what’s going on in the coming months, from major regional art fairs to local galleries’ activities on an international level.

A representation of the UAE’s advancing arts scene, the ArtMap acts as a platform to a global audience by working with local galleries, International art fairs and Biennials. Since its first publication in 2007 the ArtMap has developed relationships with Art Dubai, Abu Dhabi Art, the Sharjah Biennial, Vitra Design Museum, ROMA: The Road to Contemporary Art, and the UAE Pavilion at the 53rd and 54th Venice Biennales.

ARTBUS

The UAE’s shuttle to the arts, the ArtBus, provides guided tours of the city’s prominent galleries, studios, art centres, alternative art spaces and art fairs. The ArtBus was launched in 2007 during the first edition of Art Dubai to spread awareness of UAE galleries and arts initiatives to an international audience visiting the UAE during international arts events, and has since continued to develop new audiences for the arts in the UAE amongst residents and tourists to the region.

The ArtBus creates a hassle free ride without the stresses of traffic or parking within the Emirates while providing a reliable, informative and enjoyable experience where trained art guides take you through a programme of gallery exhibitions, events, talks and performances. The ArtBus has built longstanding relationships with local galleries in Abu Dhabi and Dubai alongside projects with Abu Dhabi Art Fair, TDIC, Arts Abu Dhabi, Art Dubai, Al Bastakiya Art Fair, Sharjah Biennial and Sharjah Art Museum.

Recently the ArtBus has become a blank canvas on which emerging local artists have showcased their work in a collaborative initiative with the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority during March 2011. This is just one example of how the ArtBus can be used as a way to promote regional artistic talent and allow art to be enjoyed in a dynamic new format.
