'Artscape of World Cultures' at Manarat Al Saadiyat

'Artscape of World Cultures' is a special evening of dance, music, poetry, craft, food, map-making activities and workshops. For one night, people of all ages are invited to explore an “international bazaar”, to examine and engage with contemporary artists and practitioners of traditional and contemporary culture from around the world, presented in collaboration with an international array of cultural organisations in the UAE.

Enjoy Performances

Take a break, relax and enjoy live sets by Paris-based DJs Mo Laudi and dÉbruit, mixing indigenous music from Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas, drawn from the archive of the Musee du Quai Branly. Presented In collaboration with Institut Francais and Alliance Francaise

Celebrated UK poet, writer, performer and spoken-word artist Kayo Chingonyi recites poetry in a most electrifying style. Presented in collaboration with British Council.

Inspired by ancient artifacts in the exhibition originating from Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Orissa, a group of dancers will perform Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi traditional dances from these distinct regions in India. Presented in collaboration with Embassy of India, Cultural Wing.

Gamelan is an ancient music from Indonesia, typically from the islands of Bali and Java, created by a unique set of instruments, including matallophones and xylophones, an exquisite hand-carved example of which is featured in the exhibition. Join us for a rare live concert. Presented in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.

Explore the Bazaar

Learn about the internationally recognized “slow-food” movement, founded in Italy by Carlo Petrini in 1986, and make your own organic, locally-sourced dish guided by Pascal Sfara, head chef at Prego’s, Abu Dhabi. Presented in collaboration with the cultural office of the Italian Embassy to the UAE.

Award-winning ceramic designer/master potter Homa Farley of Abu Dhabi Pottery will demonstrate the art of throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel, inspired by the exhibited pottery. People of all ages will also be invited to make their own pots, using ancient techniques that are still in practice today. Presented in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Pottery.

Germany has a long history of print-making, from Albrecht Durer to the present day. German artist Johannes Häfner will conduct a print-making performance in which he will print and give-away a series of posters especially designed for Artscape. Presented in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut.

Participate in Sharjah Art Foundation’s Mapping Abu Dhabi, a cartography project that asks visitors and residents to creatively map the city of Abu Dhabi. The result will be an interactive map that highlights unique spaces of personal interest and importance to people as members of the community. Based on Alexis Bhagat and Lize Mogel’s Sharjah Biennial 10 Commission. Presented in collaboration with Sharjah Art Foundation.

Enjoy an original programme of BAFTA 2012 Short Film Nominees featuring live-action shorts and animations by international filmmakers, reflecting the diversity of the world’s cultures. Presented in collaboration with British Council.
