Etemad Gallery Dubai is delighted to announce its summer group exhibition, 'mise–en–scène', bringing together works of several contemporary emerging Iranian artists working in a variety of media. These artists are showing for the first time in Dubai showcasing the burgeoning contemporary art scene in Iran that is often unfamiliar to people living outside of the country. The works on display vary from painterly practices to more experimental use of photography, sculpture and moving image.
Pooya Razi’s recent works sees him abandon canvases and paint directly onto plexi-glass which are then later assembled as light boxes. Film maker Farniyaz Zaker's 'Puppet behind the curtain, Puppet behind the window', 2012, is a new interpretation of Sadegh Hedayat’s popular short story of the same name which details the accounts of a young man who falls in love with a mannequin in a shop window. Mostafa Choobtarashʼs playful Persian-pop paintings are a fusion of folklore with pop-art influences. His large paintings are of Persian miniature and folklore characters reinterpreted using a technique that resembles spraying which is usually used by street artists. Translated from French to English as the physical setting of an action, these works also act as a catalyst for Contemporary Iranian art.
